The party is over when any of the following occur:
1) The pirates are too drunk to walk a straight plank.
2) The 1978 Star Wars Christmas special starts to make sense.
3) Crowds begin chanting, "Toga! Toga! Toga!"
4) Dark side of the force discovered someplace other than restroom.
5) The D&D gamers start rolling furniture instead of dice.
6) The guy in the Darth Maul costume actually mauls someone.
7) Princess "Leia" starts to sound like an amusing double entendre.
8) More people are in the bathroom than legally allowed in the entire suite.
9) Trekkies decide to "beam themselves up" with the microwave.
10) Sydney kicks everyone out!

There will be a private screening of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, July 17th at 10:30 pm, ONLY for Friday
Babelcon attendees. BabelCon badge-wearers should meet in the lobby of the Cook Hotel at 9:45 pm, in order to
caravan to the movie theatre. Each person is responsible for the price of their movie ticket. Since this is a private
screening, the location will not be made public before we arrive at the theater.

We want to thank everyone that attended the BabelCon Halloween Party. There was an unbelievable turnout this
year -- a cumulative 30+ attendees, including wizards, elves, pirates, Trekkers, zombies, Pumpkinheads, Doctor
Who, browncoats, and assorted undead (including a vampirate). People came from all over to be there, including
one lady who drove from Lake Charles. Best... Halloween... party... EVER!

All I can say, is WOW. That had to be the largest turnout for a New Year's party in BabelCon
history. Two hours before midnght it was Standing Room Only, with 40+ people in attendance
throughout the night. Two guys from Jackson, Mississippi drove 3 hours to be there -- now that's
dedication. At midnight we toasted to "a drama-free 2009, and looking forward to many more". and
to those who stayed to clean up after the party broke up at 4:30 am. What a bash! Looks like next
year we'll have to rent a bigger hall.

We would like to welcome S.O.U.L. -- Seekers of Unexplained Louisiana -- as the host of this year's paranormal track!

There have been some weird rumors floating around the Internet, so let me clarify. BabelCon 4.5 a
"mini-con". This is not the new normal for BabelCon. BabelCon 4.5 is a transition from the traditional
July date to the new March date.
Its being organized in the same way as BabelCon 1 & 2 was... a cozy con atmosphere that relies
heavily on panel discussions as the entertainment, which are all about science fiction and science. In
other words, a more focused event, cutting out the chaff of a larger con, getting back to the basics.
The larger con continues next year, in March 2011, which is already in the pre-planning stage.
In addition, we have confirmed new author guests, scientists, Ren Faire shows, scheduled games, at
least one LARP group, fan group tables, horror panels, paranormal panels, and Rocky Horror at
midnight. The staff is still working on getting a celebrity guest, but none are confirmed yet. Keep your
fingers crossed!
It seems like BabelCon guests are being confirmed hourly. I've updated the website Guest page so it
includes all the confirmed guests. You can go directly to the page using THIS LINK.
At the big meeting on Sunday, just under 15 volunteers were present. All fan clubs, groups, and track
leaders that were there asked questions about security, programming, shows, merchant room setup,
panel room size, and general logistics. Those in attendance appeared satisfied with the plan for
BabelCon 4.5, so the staff and volunteers are going ahead as originally envisioned.
will be doing Trek panels; the team from S.O.U.L. is running the Paranormal track; Star Wars, Harry
Potter, and general Sci-Fi panels have volunteers working them. Shows, such as Ren Faire, Rocky
Horror (which was absent last year), and the green Orion girls are confirmed.
And finally, the sci-fi "Anime" track will be folded into the new "Animation" track, expanding its focus to
all sci-fi and related animation.
The next meeting is February 28th, 2010, same location (Jones Creek Library in Baton Rouge).

We have had several people complain about the Cook Hotel's treatment of BabelCon attendees at the convention.
The best person to write to would be Cliff Vannoy, the Executive Vice-President of the Hotel's owner organization (the
LSU Alumni Association). His e-mail address is Cliff@LSUAlumni.org
Now I am NOT suggesting anyone do some kind of mass e-mail harassment of Mr. Vannoy. If you have a legitimate
complaint, please let him know, in a clear, well-thought out letter, exactly what happened to cause your particular
issue. Do your best not to exaggerate, nor pass along hearsay and rumors, and use professional language when
possible. It also helps if you empathize with the hotel in your statements - for example, "I understand that crowds get
rowdy sometimes, and that the hotel has a responsibility to its other guests, but this crowd was well-behaved and
did not deserve that kind of treatment." And thats just a fictional example, by the way. You should also know we have
no grudge with the hotel. This is for individuals that experienced a specific incident.

BabelCon has an important announcement to make at its upcoming meeting. Thanks to an infusion of resources,
we will be holding a much larger event than we originally planned - one that will involve a near total buyout of
downtown Hilton and/or the Baton Rouge River Center, and allow us to procure big name celebrities.
Please join us August 29th, at Jones Creek Library, 6222 Jones Creek Rd., Baton Rouge; from 2:30 pm to 4:00
pm, to hear the exciting details, and find out which celebrities are being seriously considered.
